Main Duties
Applications are invited for our two vacant consultant posts in Medicine for Older People at Southampton General
Hospital and the Community.
Our strategic goal, is to continue to provide the highest quality acute care for older people in times of crisis, but also to
work to develop innovative and exciting methods of community support and crisis prevention.
Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching centre for the University of Southampton,
offering opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and excellent facilities for research and clinical
care. Community roles are also available through our partners Solent and Southern healthcare.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will be responsible for a clinical team caring for patients from a specific locality of Southampton or West
Hampshire. There are strong links to community teams and services and links to primary care within each of these
localities. The new posts in Medicine for Older People are developed to extend services within the hospital. There is an
expansion of front door working in the Acute Medical Unit and Emergency Department and development of frailty
liaison services across the trust. The aim is to provide excellent care of frail older people across the trust, throughout
their admission and back into the community.
