Main Duties
• The main clinical duties of the post will be participating in the junior medical rota,
covering the neonatal unit. This includes daily ward rounds and clinical management of
infants in intensive care, high dependency and special care.
• Clinical work also includes various procedures including central and arterial lines,
tracheal intubation, cannulation and phlebotomy.
• Outpatient clinics are mainly consultant delivered but there may be an opportunity to
attend clinics if that is of interest to the post holder. Infants are also brought in form the
community and form the postnatal wards for medical review, and this also forms part of
the posts clinical duties when on shift.
• All Neonatal medical staff are allocated an Educational Supervisor who will be one of the
Neonatal Consultants. A personal training plan will be developed at the beginning of the
post to suit the individual's training needs. Progress will be monitored by regular
appraisal.
