Main Duties
Clinical duties:
• To work with their consultant colleagues in provision of the adult and paediatric spinal services:
• To work as part of the adult and paediatric spinal multi-disciplinary teams providing elective
and emergency spinal services across the Wessex region including delivery of outpatient
clinics, operating lists and participation in the on call rota.
• Provide initial assessment and management of elective and emergency admissions
• Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of emergency and elective
patients
• To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Spinal patients
• Participate in spinal on call rota
• Provide ongoing care for patients undergoing a variety of spinal procedures.
• Provide liaison services to other hospitals.
• Further develop pathways, to assess and manage patients treated within the spinal services.
• Provide new and follow-up clinics
• To actively participate in and contribute to adult and paediatric spinal MDT meetings.
• Any responsibility that relates to delivery of a special interest
• To actively develop the clinical specialty and ensure that new techniques are delivered in a
timely way
• To take responsibility for performance measures, both individually and across the department
• To work flexibly when required to manage peaks of demand, within agreed acceptable limits
• To work constructively with the CGCL around booking of leave, to ensure that not only
emergency cover, but also service provision is protected
• Clinical and educational supervision of junior staff and medical students.
• To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
• To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance
and audit
• To attend meetings as appropriate
